7. _______________________________ gv na ge i di la su lo.
C. Now, with your teacher’s help, go back and write the sentences above to say that “you are wearing” the clothing and then that “he or she is wearing” it.
Language Notes:
1. In Tutiyi (Snowbird), most people will put the /h/ sound in front of the words that start out in your vocabulary list with “(H).” On the Qualla Boundary, most people will pronounce those words starting with the next sound.
2. There is no syllabary character for /hni/, thus the “h” has been put in parentheses. It is included in the phonetics because many speakers pronounce the word with this sound in it. You will just use the syllabary character for /ni/ when writing it in the syllabary.
3. Sometimes speakers will give the color of something without using “u la su wi da” before the color name. This has been included here to give you the more “complete” way of saying it.
HOMEWORK: Find a picture of yourself and a friend or family member, preferably a digital picture. Write a paragraph introducing yourself and the friend or family member and talking about what you are both wearing. Use the first and third persons (I am wearing and He/She is wearing). Remember to include the colors. Share your picture and your paragraph with the class. Use presentation software if possible to make your assignment more interesting for your audience.
