VIDEO ACTIVITY: Based on the information in the video, fill in the blanks with the correct holiday, month, or date – depending on what is missing – in Tsalagi. You may need to watch the video several times to complete this and use the vocabulary list below. After you have filled in the blanks, go back and write all of these sentences in the syllabary.
1. U no lv ta nv ka lv a gv yi i ga ________________________________.
2. Ka ga li ka lv nv ga du si ne i ga ______________________________.
3. Tsi sa hu le hi sa nv i i ga _________________________ ka lv.
4. A na da go na da di s gv i _____________________________ ka lv.
5. Kv na tsu ni ya gi s di yi ____________________________ ka lv.
6. Tsi sa ga lo ne dv (h)u de ti yi s go i __________________ ka lv
____________________________ i ga.
ACTIVITY: Create a bingo card labeled as Di tsi nv na da that includes a mixture of some month names, some holiday names, and some ordinal number names from first to thirty-first. Write the names in the squares in both phonetics and syllabary.
If you like, you may each create more than one card for yourselves. Just make certain that the additional cards are different from the other ones you made.
Next, have one person in your group create the bingo calling cards with all the month names, another person the calling cards with all the days of the week and the holiday names you have learned, and perhaps two others the calling cards with the names of the ordinal numbers from first to thirty-first. If you have more than four members in your group, divide the work of making the calling cards among all group members.
Once you have the game ready to play, shuffle all the calling cards together. Take turns being the one who calls the game, but everyone should play each round. Your teacher may decide to give extra points or prizes for the winners of each round.
When you win, shout out, “De tsi nv na da!” This means that you have completed a row.
HOMEWORK: On your Tsalagi calendar with all the months, fill in the names of the holidays that you learned today in phonetics and syllabary.
